COVID 19 Response

SJI will offer in-person and online instruction for the academic year of 2020-21. Our reopening plan follows OSSE guidelines for school reopening.

At this time, we cannot accommodate requests for shadow days or in-person interviews in order to limit the number of visitors on our campus.

Consider scheduling a virtual tour with our admissions officer, Emily Strab.

How to Apply

Applying to the St. Jerome Institute is a simple, three-step process. First, fill out an online admission and financial aid form through TADS. Second, submit your transcript, letters of recommendation, and student essay. Finally, schedule an interview with our headmaster.

Refer to the step-by-step instructions and important deadlines below and get started on your application today!

Why Study at SJI?

When we stand in the presence of a powerful sculpture or gaze through the eyepiece of a telescope and see a distant nebula, there is an extended moment of awe when we are transfixed with wonder. The desire to understand what we see, to know its story, prompts us to ask questions and seek answers. At SJI, we strive to recreate this moment, to ask these questions, and to know these stories in every subject we teach. From the epic tales of Odysseus and Beowulf to the quiet heroism of Walter Ciszek in Soviet Russia, from the deceptive simplicity of counting to the surprising complexity of the natural logarithm, SJI presents the inspiring beauty of our world in ways that lead students to deeper understanding and lifelong mastery.

We absolutely adore this place of study for our 15 year old daughter! She has grown and blossomed. The faculty are outstanding in every way.

Rolling Admissions Applicants

After the first round of admission, SJI will open a rolling admissions process to fill any vacant seats for the school year of 2021-22. Given our commitment to small class sizes, there is no guarantee of a seat for admitted students in the second round. If there is no space for a qualified student, the student will be placed on a waitlist and notified of any opportunity to enroll.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SJI take transfers?

Yes, SJI takes admission applications for grades 9-12, but transfer students should be in discussion with school administrators to determine if any academic support will be needed for a successful transfer, due to the unique nature of our curriculum.

Does it matter if my student hasn’t had Latin or other foreign language experience?

No, our curriculum is designed to introduce Latin to students with no previous Latin study, or challenge students who have already studied Latin.

Does SJI have sports and clubs?

Yes, SJI has many opportunities for club sports and activities and encourages students to organize new clubs and sports based on their interests. You can find out about our offerings on the extracurriculars page.

Can SJI make any accommodations for my student’s special needs?

SJI administrators and faculty have many years of experience developing and utilizing plans to make accommodations for many different student circumstances. As a school with a low student-to-teacher ratio, we are able to support our students as individuals. Please reach out to us to discuss your student’s particular needs. 301-887-3008.

    Campus Tours and Visits

Tours and shadow day visits are a great way to get to know what the St. Jerome Institute is about. Visitors can sit in on a seminar or observe students working on projects first hand, while students can see what an entire day at SJI is like.

Currently we are unable to offer shadow days.

A shadow day is a great way to see our curriculum in action through our students in their classes throughout the day. Shadow days are often the biggest help in decision-making for parents and students.

Shadow days are offered throughout the Fall for 8th graders and throughout the Spring for 7th graders. SJI shadow days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays 8:30am-2:45pm.

    Financial Aid

St. Jerome Institute is passionate about making the unique benefits of our school accessible to as many students as possible. As such, we are committed to providing opportunities for aid, sponsorships, and scholarships to help meet the financial needs of our diverse families. We urge all interested families to apply, and contact us directly if you have financial concerns.

For our first class of 2019-2020, we were able to secure over $90,000 in financial aid and scholarships for our students, and we are committed to continuing to work toward providing aid for future students.

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring an SJI student, please call 301-887-3008 or email mguza@stjeromeinstitute.org.
